RAID in Hosting
Any content that you upload to your new hosting account will be saved on fast SSD drives that work in RAID-Z. This configuration is built to work with the ZFS file system which runs on our cloud web hosting platform and it adds one more level of security for your site content on top of the real-time checksum authentication which ZFS uses to guarantee the integrity of the data. With RAID-Z, the data is saved on several disks and at least one is a parity disk - whenever data is written on it, an additional bit is added, so if any drive stops working for whatever reason, the integrity of the data can be verified by recalculating its bits based on what is saved on the production hard drives and on the parity one. With RAID-Z, the operation of our system will never be interrupted and it will continue functioning efficiently until the malfunctioning drive is replaced and the information is synced on it.
RAID in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account from our firm, all the content you upload will be kept on SSD drives that work in RAID-Z. With this form of RAID, at least one of the disks is employed for parity - when data is synced between the hard drives, an additional bit is included in it on the parity one. The idea behind this is to guarantee the integrity of the information that is cloned to a new drive in case one of the disks in the RAID breaks down as the content being copied on the new disk is recalculated from the info on the standard hard drives and on the parity one. An additional advantage of RAID-Z is the fact that even in the event that a drive stops working, the system could switch to a different one instantly without service interruptions of any sort. RAID-Z adds an additional level of protection for the content that you upload on our cloud Internet hosting platform along with the ZFS file system that uses unique checksums so as to validate the integrity of each and every file.
RAID in VPS Servers
The physical servers where we generate VPS server use fast SSD drives that will raise the speed of your sites substantially. The hard drives function in RAID to guarantee that you will not lose any information as a result of a power loss or a hardware malfunction. The production servers use a variety of drives where the info is stored and one disk is used for parity i.e. one bit is added to all the information copied on it, which makes it much easier to recover the website content without loss in case a main drive fails. In case you choose our backup service, the info will be saved on a separate machine which uses standard hard-disk drives and although there isn't a parity one in this case, they are also in a RAID to guarantee that we will have a backup of your site content at all times. With this type of setup your information will always be safe because it will be available on multiple disk drives.
